Birthday # 33

Hello everyone!  Today was my birthday, for the 33rd time!  I managed to take a self portrait (I try to do one every year near my birthday) while talking to my mom on the phone and checking out paint colors in the mirror in my bedroom.  As you can see, it looks like we have done nothing to that room, and after taking off the wallpaper, that is the truth.  I spent much of the day contemplating just what to do in there.

Icy Lake Afternoon Sun

Here is a shot from Greyrocks Reservoir in Wyoming on an icy spring afternoon.  Take heart, everyone, spring is nearly here!

Hush of Morning Snow

We had a heavy overnight snow a couple of days ago and my husband was kind enough to wake me up and tell me to grab my camera and take a half hour outside.  I have been waiting all winter for a snow like this to occur on a weekend so I could leave the baby with Bri and go out.  But the timing just hasn't been right.  So it was so nice of him to give me that time during the week and go in to work a little later than normal.  Truth be told, he was probably excited to spend a few extra minutes with Wyle.  He has been working really long hours  for a few weeks now and I know he misses that cute little face!

But, back to the snow.  Those huge clumps of snow that weigh down the branches of the evergreens fall off so quickly once the sun is up, so you do really have to catch the snow early in the day for that look.  I am so pleased with how these turned out.  They really speak to the hush of the morning, the freshness of the snow before the dogs run through it and before it has a chance to slide off the branches.

Carrie Blast Furnace

Here are the rest of my images from the shoot at the Carrie Blast Furnace site.  It was a grey day so I didn't shoot much outside, which is too bad because I had wanted a shot of the entire massive exterior.  But really, the wealth of visual interest inside the various rooms was the overwhelming part.  I could have shot for days.  And I may try to go again sometime.  I don't shoot much in the dark and was disappointed to find that even at 400 ISO my shots were very grainy.  Lesson learned.

What an amazing place to visit.  I will definitely go back for a tour.  I kept wishing I knew what I was looking at when I was there.
