Echo Farm, Shortly Before the Rain

Last summer we were driving around in Western Pennsylvania and came upon a place called Echo.  There was a long dirt road, this abandoned farm house, and overgrown fields as far as the eye could see.  Storm clouds were rolling in, and I remember getting that particular feeling you notice only when the pressure drops.

Little Red Riding Hood

My little assistant humored me by pretending to be Little Red Riding Hood a few days ago. The wild phlox was in bloom along a little wooded path but she was too interested in the content of the basket (candy!) to pick the flowers.

The Lincoln Memorial

We walked around DC our first evening, looking at the monuments.  We were not alone - so many flocked to see them lit up, each a beacon in the night, reminding us of our best moments in American history.
